Vazaleen had an ebb and flow from party to party. Ecstatic heights are untenable for years on end. The core participants were from the art and music scenes. Waves of the Church street crowd would come and ignore the band while cruising at the back of the bar. The span of age groups was exceptional. Late teens to late fifties by my estimation. A narrow age range just makes a scene seem weak to me now. There was dancing all over the club but the sunken floor in front of the stage was packed tight. To be there meant you had to be in sympathetic motion with the crowd. I could find a sliver of space by the crew of naked guys in bondage straps. That orbit included an inevitable sweaty naked collision.
